In the event of a physical disconnect, why does the event log display "1 Jan 1970" as the date and time stamp?

When a physical disconnect occurs, the communication between the operating system and the CMOS present in the motherboard is severed.

CMOS: Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor Refers to a technology used in semiconductor manufacturing and refers to the CMOS battery and memory on a computer's motherboard, which retains system settings such as the date and time when the computer is powered off.

OS: Operating System An operating system is the software that manages computer resources and provides a user-friendly interface, enabling users to interact with and run applications on their computer. It handles tasks such as memory management, device communication, and software execution.

As a result, the firmware is unable to retrieve and record the precise date and time of the physical disconnect in the event log.

To address this limitation, a default date and timestamp of "1 Jan 1970" is written to the event log when a physical disconnect is detected. This default value serves as an indicator that a physical disconnection event has occurred, even though the exact date and time information cannot be captured due to the loss of communication between the OS and the CMOS.

It's important to note that this default date and time value does not affect the overall functionality or security of the X-PHY® AI Embedded Cyber Secure SSD system. The primary purpose of the event log is to provide a record of significant event, including physical disconnects, and the default timestamp helps to indicate the occurence of such events in the absence of precise time information.
